Edward Oakley Thorp is widely regarded, by professional players as well as the general public, as the Father of Card Counting. For many years Ed Thorp wrote a column for the now-defunct Gambling Times magazine. Pot Odds: This is the ratio of how large of a bet you must call to the size of the pot. If you are clearly behind in a hand but your opponent bets 1 dollar at a 100 dollar pot.
